Bed bugs at home: 5 tips to get rid of them without toxic productsCheck the first comment ๐Ÿ‘‡

Small but tenacious, bed bugs invade our homes unannounced. They bite, hide in the smallest crevices, and are difficult to get rid of. If you’re looking for an effective and safe way to eradicate them, there are remarkably effective natural solutions. Here’s how to get back to peaceful nights without using harsh chemicals.

Why are bed bugs so resilient?

Bed bugs have an  impressive ability to adapt . They feed on blood, hide in cracks, mattresses, and even behind electrical outlets. A female can lay up to  500 eggs in just a few months , making infestations rapid and difficult to control.

Chemical solutions exist, but they are often  expensive, harmful to health, and ineffective in the long term . Fortunately, it is possible to stop their proliferation with natural methods.

5 natural solutions to get rid of bed bugs

Steam: a formidable enemy

Bed bugs cannot tolerate  high temperatures . A steam cleaner at  120°C  can effectively eliminate them. Steam clean mattresses, curtains, carpets, and any nooks and crannies where they might be hiding.

Tip:  Pay particular attention to  mattress seams  and  furniture cracks .

Diatomaceous earth: a natural insecticide

This natural powder, composed of  abrasive micro-particles , destroys the exoskeletons of bed bugs, dehydrating them within hours. Sprinkle it under beds, along baseboards, and in other suspicious areas.

Caution:  Use  food-grade diatomaceous earth  to avoid  respiratory risks .

Garlic and essential oils as repellents

The strong smell of garlic and certain essential oils ( lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus )  disturbs bed bugs and disrupts their orientation .

Recipe for a bed bug spray:

  1. Mix  25 ml of lavender essential oil ,  50 ml of tea tree oil  and  1 liter of water .
  2. Spray on linens, mattresses and suspicious corners.

High temperature washing

Wash your sheets, clothes and curtains at  a minimum of 60°C  to kill  eggs and larvae . If possible, tumble dry them  on a hot setting .

Good to know:  Place infested items in a  sealed plastic bag  and put them in the freezer for  48 hours  to kill bed bugs with cold.

Seal all hiding places

Bed bugs  love cracks and crevices . Seal holes in walls,  repair baseboards  , and attach  bed bug-proof covers  to your mattresses.

Preventing a new infestation

  • Vacuum  sensitive areas regularly ( mattress, sofa, carpet ).
  • Do not bring home second-hand furniture  without having carefully inspected it.
  • Check your luggage  after a hotel stay or a train/bus journey.
  • Use bed bug-proof covers  to protect your mattresses and pillows.

Thanks to these natural methods, you can  permanently eliminate  bed bugs and regain a  healthy home, without toxic products  !
