Củ αΊ₯u, also known as water nut, devil's pod, buffalo nut, horned nut, ling nut, bat nut, "mustachioed" nut, or water chestnut. It is a fruit and also a nut that is formed by the water walnut plant – a water weed that can clog dense waterways. The fruits are boiled and the starchy inner part is eaten.
In Chinese medicine, this fruit is known for purifying the body. It is rich in potassium, starch and phenolic acids, and has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties and a high content of antioxidants.
To me, the taste is very similar to cassava and does not look like water chestnut at all, despite the name. A fun and interesting nut to try if you want to diversify your starch sources. I would recommend giving it a try if you ever have the opportunity
